How to mix henna the Moroccan way

In this class you will learn to mix natural henna paste according to the Moroccan Henna tradition with only natural ingredients that are safe for skin and health.

What's the perfect Moroccan Henna Mix

Thousands of different henna recipes can be found all over the internet. And not all are the same. Some are natural and safe others are not! So how to know wich one is the right one and for whatever reasons?

As we say in Morocco "Ayneq mizaneq (spoken as: aienek misanek)" your eyes are the scale. Your eyes lead you through the stage of preparation. By looking consciously in your henna bowl you will learn to understand the process that turns henna powder into paste. And not just a paste, but a paste that gives a strong stain.

What will I learn

In this class you will mix your paste step by step under my guidance. You will learn to understand the process of dye release and you will able to make your own henna paste that gives you a rich stain. And you will get the knowledge of how henna paste was made traditionally in Morocco.

As a free bonus I will show you how to make Moroccan Mint Tea, as it is used as an ingredient in the traditional henna paste. You receive the recipe in a pdf file too.

I'm your teacher

Salam! My name is Fatima Oulad Thami and I am often asked: why did you choose to do henna? But that is not how I see it. I did not choose to do henna, henna chose me. I am merely the instrument, the window, the bridge, medium, whatever you wish to call it, through which the story of Henna Art may be told.  Henna is magical. Once it has touched your heart, it digs itself into your soul and will not let you go. The passion for this ancestral art became my way of life.

Why would you learn from me

Moroccan Henna culture is not only my expertise but also my deepest passion. I have been running my Henna business professionally for 20 + years. In addition to the henna services I offer, I also run a Henna supplies webshop and a Henna academy. I have been asked to teach at the most prominent henna conferences worldwide. I have inspired thousands of women so far to embrace the Moroccan Henna style and acknowledge its value. Now it’s your turn to embrace this meaningful authentic beauty ritual and experience how it will change your life.

National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage

Intangible heritage includes a.o. practices, knowledge and skills that express cultural identity and diversity. I actively propagate and safeguard the practition of Moroccan Henna Art and therefor I ‘m an ambassador of Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2014. Henna Art was added to the National Inventory of Intangible and Cultural Heritage in the Netherlands due to my safeguarding plans. This Inventory charts Intangible Heritage and helps communities and artisans to safeguard their traditions and preserve them for future generations.
The compilation of the National Inventory is one of the obligations the Netherlands undertook to fulfill when the UNESCO Convention for the safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage was ratified.

Everything she touches she adorns with meticulous perfection and intention

Fatima is such an amazing instructor. She was very well prepared and her take home material was such high quality. The information shared was very thoughtful and easy to refer back to. She was so generous and positive with her instruction. A couple months later I was struggling with filling my syringe. I reached out to Fatima and she got back to me. Sent me a few messages with instructions and a video. I was soon able to fill my syringe. I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to learn from Fatima.

Fatima was generous enough to do henna on me and it will be an experience I will treasure forever. She is so kind and gentle. The design she chose to do was of an eye. Eyes have always had such special significance for me so it was quite amazing that that is what she chose to do. I loved it. And am grateful for that time.

I think the biggest things about Fatima is her gentle spirit. She is a extremely good teacher and through her research and desire for truth and authenticity she provides her students and clients with a wonderfully well rounded experience. Everything she touches she adorns with meticulous perfection and intention. Her laugh is contagious and her presence is simply soothing.

Any person is lucky to learn from Fatima

Fatima is a focused and organized instructor — I truly appreciate that. She covers a LOT of information in her classes, and she still manages to walk around the class and give individual feedback to her students. She speaks with knowledge and authority but she is sweet and approachable — she's a wonderful teacher!

I loved receiving henna from Fatima! Even at 2am at a busy conference, she was attentive and fun and created a unique and beautiful design for me. In spite of our exhaustion, she was still present and creative.

I love her spirit, her enthusiasm, and her originality — any person is lucky to learn from her or to receive henna from her!

Watching her work was mesmerizing and inspiring

I attended each of Fatimas classes at Hennacon. The passion she has is infectious. She is funny, witty and truly supportive and encouraging. I left each class with such a deep respect for not only syringe Henna work, but for the symbolism, traditions And heritage that she has such love for.

I was so lucky to be Hennaed by Fatima. To say it was something I will cherish forever would not do it justice. From the intimate location she picked and the beautiful music she played, it was a meditative experience. Watching her work was mesmerizing and inspiring. She just flows with her beautiful syringe work. Fatima is truly love and light in human form.
